Romanzo Criminale: The Series (2008 Italian Series)

The series chronicles nearly 15 years of criminal history, from 1977 to 1992, following a group of criminals who cherished the illusion of conquering Rome’s underworld. The story intertwines love, business, anxieties, friendships, feuds, and resentments as the gang’s progression and leadership changes (Lebanese is followed by his cohorts Freddo and Dandi) take place over twenty-five years, from the 1970s into the 1990s. Their criminal exploits are inseparably intertwined with the dark history of modern Italy during the “Years of Lead” (anni di piombo), connected to neo-fascist activists, secret services (SISMI), political figures like Licio Gelli (P2 lodge), and NATO’s clandestine anti-communist organization Gladio.
