H.G. Wells pursues his friend Dr. John Stevenson (secretly Jack the Ripper) to modern-day Manhattan after the killer steals Wells' time machine to escape 1893 London. Wells, an idealist, must navigate the unfamiliar 21st century and team up with museum curator Jane Walker to stop the psychopath from resuming his murders, confronting his own utopian ideals against a violent future.
