Children of Earth is a five‑part event serial that escalates Torchwood into a national conspiracy thriller. All the world’s children and an elderly man suddenly freeze and speak in unison, heralding the return of the 456, an alien race that first made contact with the British government in 1965. As civil servant John Frobisher is ordered to bury Torchwood’s past involvement, a black‑ops squad moves to eliminate the team. Gwen discovers she’s pregnant while the survivors regroup in London to surveil the government’s secret negotiations. The 456 demand 10% of Earth’s children, forcing Torchwood into a desperate, morally brutal stand against both the aliens and their own government’s willingness to comply.
