Brother (2023)

Francis and Michael are Jamaican-Canadian brothers growing up in Toronto’s Scarborough during the early 1990s hip-hop scene. Francis is charismatic, protective, and determined to become a music producer, while the quieter Michael struggles to find his identity under his brother’s shadow. Raised by their hardworking mother Ruth, the siblings face poverty, racism, gang violence, police brutality, and the pressure to prove their masculinity. Told across multiple timelines, the film reveals how one tragic summer changes the family forever and follows the painful aftermath years later. Based on David Chariandy’s novel, Clement Virgo’s drama explores brotherhood, grief, memory, and family love.
