In the 1890s, Grace Burnham, a doctor from New York, travels to a remote plantation in Colombia to treat Martin Márquez, a troubled boy with inexplicable abilities. The villagers believe Martin is possessed by the Devil and blame him for the misfortunes affecting their community, while Grace insists that his condition must have a scientific explanation.
